About US
USTA Northern California is a not-for-profit volunteer based organization with approximately 35,000 adult members, 9,000 junior members and almost 700 organization members. Since 1953, the USTA Northern California section has been one of the 17 sections of the United States Tennis Association, the governing body of tennis in America. With our volunteer Board of Directors, a staff of over 30 members, and hundreds of volunteers, USTA Northern California is devoted to promoting and developing the growth of tennis in Northern California and Northwest Nevada.
The USTA Northern California section is one of the larger geographic regions in the 17 sections and offers tennis programs for all ages and ability levels. It is our belief that tennis should be thought of as an enjoyable activity, great exercise and a fun way to spend quality time with friends. Always at the forefront of progression, our groundbreaking programs and numerous resources will help you advance through the sport and make it a lifetime activity.
USTA Northern California gratefully acknowledges the outstanding contributions made by all our volunteers. We always need the help and skills of tennis enthusiasts. Diversity
Diversity is synonymous with Northern California and the regional tennis community has embraced the same spirit by ensuring that tennis be accessible for everyone. Officials, instructors, players, volunteers and fans; from public courts and community programs to private clubs, our goal is to welcome all people of varied backgrounds into the USTA tennis family. Through our league, competitive, recreational and adaptive services we are committed to building a pathway of opportunities for all to enjoy the sport of a lifetime.
It is with this in mind that the USTA has made multicultural participation a Level I Strategic Priority, and approved a Diversity Plan to make this priority a reality.
Multicultural Participation Committee
Always at the forefront of progression, Northern California was the first of the USTA’s 17 sections to formally address diversity. The creation of the Multicultural Participation Committee (MPC) in November of 1990 (originally known as the Minority Advisory Committee), was the beginning of identifying and supporting organizations, individuals and sites that provided tennis to multicultural populations.
The MPC’s goals of inclusion, which were originally viewed as ambitious and unachievable, proved to be extraordinary and valuable. NorCal’s revolutionary activities have reached thousands of underserved populations and youth by helping to create tennis programs at community centers, providing college scholarships for young adults and making it possible for all to enjoy participating in leagues and tournaments.
Community Tennis (Home)
Tennis is played every day in Northern California! With over 45,000 tennis players of all skill levels, the NorCal region is a mecca for tennis lovers. Through public courts, community and school programs, introductory activities, instruction, and affordable social and competitive play, USTA NorCal makes tennis available and accessible to everyone. You don’t need to be a pro or join an expensive club, just a desire to be active while having fun and meeting new people.
No matter your age, gender, cultural or socioeconomic background, physical ability or skill level, USTA Norcal’s groundbreaking programs and numerous resources will help you advance through the sport and make it a lifetime activity.
