(San Francisco, CA) The Women’s Alliance of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties presents the Power of One Annual Gala Dinner and Reception on Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Hilton Hotel, 333 O'Farrell St., San Francisco, from 5:00 p.m. to  9:00 pm. Power of One is a gathering of Jewish women designed to celebrate and inspire the power of each individual to make a difference in this world.

The evening’s featured speaker will be Gloria Steinem, writer, editor and feminist activist. More than two decades after founding Ms. magazine, Steinem remains one of America's most important voices of the modern feminist movement. Early in her career, she defined feminism simply as "the belief that women are full human beings." In 1971, she convened the historic Women's Political Caucus, and then went on to found the Coalition of Labor Union Women and the Women's Action Alliance. She is president of Voters for Choice and established the Ms. Foundation for Women.

An accomplished author and writer, Steinem has published numerous books, including Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions and Revolution From Within: A Book of Self-Esteem. She has contributed articles to major publications including Esquire, Glamour and The New York Times, and was a writer for the television show That Was the Week That Was. In 1993, Steinem was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. She continues to call for an end to women's disadvantaged condition in the paid labor force, for the elimination of sexual exploitation, and for the achievement of true equality of the races and the sexes.

Also included in the program will be the presentation of the Judith Chapman Women’s Leadership Award to Carol Saal for her lifetime of philanthropic work in support of Jewish causes. The Judith Chapman Women’s Leadership Fund adheres to an annual tradition of recognizing a woman who exemplifies significant and sustained volunteer leadership in the Jewish community, serves as a role model for others and values her Jewish identity and the importance of giving in her life.

Power of One attendees are asked to make a minimum individual gift of $365 to the Federation's Campaign 2005.

The Jewish Community Federation ensures the survival and growth of the Jewish community at home and overseas by fundraising, planning and providing programs and services. For more information visit www.sfjcf.org
