Candidate Summary

*Candidate and company names have been changed for discretion.

Mike is currently the CIO and VP of Indirect Procurement and Facilities at Xxxxx and one of the original executives that participated in the strategic planning that built Xxxxx from scratch. He sits on the executive staff and is responsible for all technology direction including internal facing corporate IT systems, external IT related infrastructure, program management office, integration with product support and engineering. Though Mike is considered a valuable asset at Xxxxx, he is looking for a new challenge that will allow him to progress beyond his current role, while also providing a change of scenery from the HP umbrella, which he has been under since 1985.

Mike’s technology career began with National Semiconductor after graduating from California State University, Chico, with a dual degree in Computer Science and Finance. On completion of a 6 month mentorship program with a focus on IT support, Mike assisted in restructuring the manufacturing organization for better alignment to the business model. In that capacity, he managed both the IT structure for a shop floor and a test lab, each for 6 months. Similar to many Silicon Valley companies in the mid-80’s, National Semiconductor went through a long downturn. Mike knew it was time for a change when at one point he went 6 weeks without taking pay as a full time employee.

Through the connection of a friend, Mike joined Hewlett Packard as an IT support manager running a small team concentrated on procurement applications and infrastructure in 1985. During the course of 14 years and along with earning an MBA from Golden Gate University, Mike took on a number of global team management and leadership roles within HP, which focused on business applications, development, product support, and corporate IT infrastructure. In his last position at HP he was in the Test & Measure division and was tasked to manage the corporate Year 2000 compliance program efforts.

Around that time HP had made plans to divest a group that would eventually become a separate company, which is now known as Agilent Technologies. Given his comprehensive view of the organization from the Year 2000 Compliance project and his many other performance accomplishments, Mike was asked to lead the separation from an IT perspective. HP offered him the choice to stay or join Agilent as a program management leader; Mike decided to take the Agilent path.

Mike was able to continue his operational success while at Agilent Technologies. He led a variety of major initiatives as an IT Program Managing Director including; the growth and development of the new Technology Support and IT organization within Agilent, M&A activity with the sale of Agilent’s medical device group to Phillips, the final technology separation program from HP, and the rebalance and IT alignment for Agilent complete product portfolio, which included a group of many initiatives and large strategic projects. Once again Mike found himself in a similar situation to HP and Agilent, and was asked to facilitate the separation of a new group.

This group, which ultimately became Xxxxx, focused on manufacturing test systems of semiconductor companies. With his extensive experience Mike was able to utilize his unique business perspective and IT expertise in test and measurement and was asked to lead the technology direction for the company as the Chief Information Officer. The plan was to divest this group from Agilent in order to allow and ensure a successful IPO. Within 10 months time, Xxxxx separated from Agilent and today is a $750+ million company.

Mike is dedicated, smart and professional and he has a strong understanding and hands-on experience of how to align business needs with technology direction. Mike has a great understanding of technology but is not the type of candidate that will be configuring hardware, performing a code review, or writing code. He is solid in the area of execution and delivery and has a reputation for getting things done in an effective and quality manner. His management style consists of trusting and empowering his team through the delegation of projects, while running the technology vision and keeping things on path.

Compensation
Mike has a base salary of $xxxK with a bonus potential of nearly $xxK as well as options (approximate value of $xxxK) and restricted stock units (approximate value at $xxxK) with Xxxxx. Mike understands that the Silver Spring Networks’ opportunity may be more equity weighted and remains very interested in the opportunity.

Availability
Mike is actively looking and is available to interview with a few days notice. He lives in the Campbell area and would have not any issues with a commute to Redwood City or travel associated with the position.
